Originally Aired: December 19, 1938
Lux Radio Theater #198, "Kid Galahad," presents a tense drama of ambition, loyalty, and corruption in the boxing world. Nick Donati, a hard-nosed fight manager, watches in fury as his fighter Danny Burke disobeys orders and gets knocked out by Chuck McGraw. Convinced that Burke has gone soft over a woman, Nick cuts him loose and vows to find a new fighter he can mold into a champion—one who will follow orders all the way to the top. His companion Fluff warns him that his obsession with the game makes him forget people have feelings, but Nick remains single-minded in his pursuit of boxing glory, despite dangerous pressure from Turkey Morgan's gang of gangsters who have their own plans for controlling the sport.
Into this volatile world steps Ward Geesenberry, an innocent bellhop who doesn't drink, smoke, or know how to mix fancy cocktails. When Nick humiliates the young man at a party, Fluff takes pity and helps him. The encounter sets the stage for a clash between Nick's ruthless methods and the decency represented by Ward, while romance and danger swirl around them all.
