Some 37 million people in the United States have chronic kidney disease, and for those with end-stage renal disease, the only two treatment options are dialysis or a kidney transplant. Mark Laftavi, MD, is a professor of surgery and interim chief of transplant services at Upstate, talks about the value of kidney transplants and how the best kidneys for transplant come from living donors.
