(http://thewiredhomeschool.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/scratch-logo.jpg)Today is DAY 12 of a special Podcast Awards (http://podcastawards.com) edition of The Wired Homeschool. If you want to listen to any previous episodes in this series, you can find them all here (http://thewiredhomeschool.com/podcastawards).
Let’s get started!
Coding with Scratch
When I’m asked by parents how to get their kids started with programming I always point them to Scratch (https://scratch.mit.edu/).
Scratch (https://scratch.mit.edu/) is a programming language and an online community where children can program and share interactive media such as stories, games, and animation with people from all over the world. As children create with Scratch, they learn to think creatively, work collaboratively, and reason systematically. Scratch is designed and maintained by the Lifelong Kindergarten group at the MIT Media Lab.
They even provide a free curriculum guide (http://scratched.gse.harvard.edu/resources/scratch-curriculum-guide-draft) that you can use to teach your kids.
STEM or STEAM Categories
Arts and Technology are the most obvious STEAM components you can address with Scratch but look for creative ways to incorporate the other STEAM components too..
