Seventeen-year-old Yvette doesn't know what's worse: being locked up on a high-security psych ward for a crime she's not sure she committed or having to see the vacant eyes of her fellow patients. All she wants is her sister back, her parents to get a clue, her brother to quit dealing drugs, the murder trial to be over, and, most of all, to be reunited with the pretty little pills that change the gory red on her hands to a much more pleasant hazy blue. Well that and serious, hard-core, merciless revenge.

I needed to know what happened
This is a very well written book. I was drawn in immediately and had to keep reading to satisfy my curiosity. The format of going back and forth between past and present was intriguing and not at all confusing. Knowing Yvette was institutionalized and a possible murderer but not immediately telling you what happened to bring her there kept me craving the whole story, which was answered throughly in the "past" chapters. I am impressed by how real Ms. Syzmanski made the characters and situations feel. I really liked this book and will definitely read any future books by this author. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that it was a bit on the dark side for me, but I would still recommend it to friends.
Great writing and awesome story!
Loved this book! Especially how it moved between the past and the present life of Yvette. Wonderful writing and excellent story.
Revenge is not always easy or clean... sometimes it's downright messy.
This book was one of the most interesting that I've ever read... the way that it's told - jumping from past to present had to of been extremely difficult to pull off, but it turned out to be the best way to tell this story. We got the whole picture of who Yvette is and how she came to be where she is at the beginning of the story... at an institution for possible murder charges.
Revenge is not always easy or clean... sometimes it's downright messy. This psychological YA thriller kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end! I literally read it all in a days time! Stopping only to make sure my kids were still alive and fed! Ha!
The back story and reason for revenge is revealed slowly as the story is told from past to present, making sure to cover her past and to meet back up to present day as she deals with her current life at the mental institution. In a round about way, this story is completely backwards, but also tells the whole story. I think that was my favorite part. The only reason I didn't give it a five is because this book is not for everyone... you have to have an open mind to read it and there are some very basic trigger topics covered.
Well written, but dark.
I had great hopes for this book at the beginning. It had such a compelling character in such a dire situation that I kept turning pages well into the night. But after I was about half way done, I had to put the book down--because it was just so depressing. Every character in the book was either evil, selfish, broken, or crazy. There were no happy moments at all. It was just one hard, bad thing after another happening to the poor main character and the people around her. After that, I skipped all of the past pages and just skimmed through the present ones to see what happened to the main character. There was one small moment of happiness for her near the end and then--nope, more horribleness.
