In Episode 10 of “In The Front Row with Mike Vaccaro” we’re joined by soccer trailblazer Kim Crabbe. Growing up in Reston, Virginia Kim knew at an early age that athletics, and soccer in particular, would be a way to have a journey that would take her to places she could never have imagined. After excelling in the sport in high school, Crabbe attended George Mason and was a member of it’s upstart women’s soccer program. While there, she helped lead the Patriots to the 1985 NCAA National Championship over the dominant North Carolina Tar Heels (in fact, it would be the only time in the 1980s the Tar Heels did not win the NCAA title). After shining on the college stage, Crabbe was invited to tryout for the US Women’s National Team and became the first African American to make the roster. After a stint in professional soccer, Kim transitioned to coaching where she has made the biggest impact. Working in outreach programs in Wilmington, NC she is known as “Coach Kim” and has seen many successes on and off the soccer pitch. Join us to hear about her extraordinary sports journey.
