Kim Driscoll is the mayor of Salem, Massachusetts. The city infamous for burning witches during colonial times is now a tourist hotspot, with over half a million visitors in October alone. Driscoll chats on the show today about presiding over a city that relies so heavily on tourism, and how Salem has evolved in recent years. Elected in 2006, she also discusses how when she originally ran, she avoided being the ‘woman candidate,’ something that’s changed in today’s political climate.

For our season finale, we chatted to Lauren Matsumoto, a member of the Hawaii State House. Matsumoto was only 25 when she made her way to the State House, and she was almost immediately overwhelmed by the lack of resources for newly-elected women. She discusses her background in beauty pageants and how that piqued her interest in running for office, finding female mentors in politics, burning out her first year and how she’s working to help female politicians from across the aisle find mentors through the organization Women in Government.
