Lastly, a correction—elves don’t necessarily need animal protein. I have two elf friends who are (mostly) vegetarian and do well. They do, however, seem to eat more protein than I do (for instance) as a hobbit.
So, the natural eating might have to do with relative ratios of protein, fat, carbohydrates, sugar, etc. Let us know what you discover!
