On King Talk's very first remote podcast in order to keep bringing our listener's interest and inspiring guests during this pandemic, Joseph welcomes our guest, Jack Pollon. Jack is a former sports writer for the Los Angeles Daily News and currently writes for CaliforniaPreps.com and The Ventura Star. He discusses his newest project with Joseph that includes writing, ranking and videos. His background in youth sports started when he played at the rec leagues, travel teams and high school. He was a multi-sport athlete in high school at Montclair Prep. His experiences in sports and love of the games lead him to his current career in sports writing. He explains how there is a place for all young athletes who love sports as they look for a career; business, writing, sports agents and more. Jack shares invaluable advice during these unprecedented times and how to create opportunities for yourself; staying in shape, keeping your body and mind active as if you were in season and reaching out to college coaches and staying in touch with them. We really appreciate Jack taking the time out of his busy schedule to record for our listeners.
As we all adjust to life with the unprecedented nature of the coronavirus, Joseph talks with Deborah Heftner at a safe social distance! Just like in sports, this reminds us that adjustments and adaptations are a part of life. Deborah shares her journey as a swimmer from an early age, through age-group swimming to Master Swimmer. She shares how swimming kept her motivated, diligent and determined throughout her life and how the greater purpose of sports is creating a healthy lifestyle and structure in life.
Joseph talks with Coach Colin Jamerson, founder and operator of youth basketball’s GameTymers, as well as current Basketball Coach at both Taft Charter High School and Village Christian School. Colin has also coached basketball at Yeshiva High School, and was a Head Coach at Sierra Canyon High School, Shalhevet High School and Calabasas High School. Colin tells Joseph about playing basketball at age 9, recording all the Laker's games with Magic Johnson on VHS tape and then mimicking those moves at the park. Joseph and Colin discuss teaching players the fundamentals of the game and playing together as a team. There are so many important lessons in this podcast for student-athletes and parents. We were so honored to have Colin take the time out of his busy coaching schedule to share his coaching journey with us and our listeners.
