Deuteronomy 17:18-20
No one really wants a king anymore. Someone with absolute authority and absolute power? No thanks. We’ve seen that go wrong way too many times in history.
But maybe we would change our minds if we could have a king who actually gets his priorities straight. Maybe we’d want a king if he used his absolute, ultimate authority to always do the right thing and always put his people first.
Jesus is the only king who fits the bill. He is perfectly just and perfectly loving. He puts his ultimate authority to work for us, his people. He doesn’t serve himself. He serves us. And he pays a king’s ransom to keep you as his own. Maybe we could get used to having a king like Jesus.
