Text: Ephesians 4:1-16

What does it actually mean to live a life worthy of the calling we’ve received in Christ?

In Ephesians 4:1–16, Paul calls the church to move from simply receiving the grace of God to faithfully embodying the life of Christ together. We’ve been given a new identity, made one in Christ, gifted by the Spirit, and empowered to participate in Jesus’ mission.

In this message, we explore four realities of our calling:
1. We are called to live a life worthy of Christ.
2. We are called to work for and protect the unity of the church.
3. We are called to leverage all we are and all we have to build up the church and pursue the mission of Jesus.
4. We are called to grow into maturity in Christ—and help others do the same.

The church isn’t a collection of consumers gathered around a service. We are the body of Christ—His presence, His power, and His ministry in the world.

And the question isn’t simply, “What can the church do for me?” The question is: Christ has given His body for you. Will you give yourself for His Body?

In Ephesians 3:14–21, Paul prays one of the most breathtaking prayers in all of Scripture. He doesn’t simply pray that the Ephesians would believe the right things or attend church regularly. He prays that they would be strengthened by the Spirit, rooted and established in love, overwhelmed by the love of Christ, and filled with all the fullness of God.

There is a kind of Christianity that is popular but not powerful—a Christianity that creates a full calendar but an empty soul. Paul’s vision is radically different. God has given us everything we need to know Him, experience His love, walk in His power, and participate in His purposes.

So what keeps us from experiencing the fullness of God? We may be connected to the wrong source. We may be striving instead of abiding. Our lives may be too full of everything else. Or we may simply be unable to see what God has made available to us.

But the good news is this: He is able, and He is willing.

God is able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine—not according to some distant power, but according to the power already at work within us.

This week, we’re asking a simple but life-changing question:

What would it look like for you to be filled with all the fullness of God?

What if God has placed your ordinary life in the middle of an extraordinary story?

In Ephesians 3:1–14, Paul pulls back the curtain on the “mystery” of God’s eternal plan: through the gospel, God is creating a new people from every nation, tribe, and tongue—and He intends to make His wisdom known through the Church.

The mission is extraordinary. The circumstances are extraordinary. But the people God chooses to use? Ordinary.

That’s the encouragement of this passage: you don’t have to be extraordinary for God to do extraordinary things through you. God has placed you in this particular moment, in this particular place, for a particular purpose. The question isn’t whether your life is significant—it’s whether you’ll faithfully play your role in the story God is writing.

God has a dream, and He wants to use ordinary people like us to see it come to fruition. Will you play your role?

We are more connected than ever—and yet increasingly alone.

In Ephesians 2:11–22, Paul reveals that the cross of Jesus did more than forgive our sins and secure our eternal life. Jesus died to create “one new humanity” out of people who were once divided, alienated, and hostile toward one another. Through His blood, Christ brings us near to God and to one another, tearing down the walls that keep us apart.

In a culture marked by individualism, isolation, hurry, distraction, and convenience, the church is called to be something radically different: a new humanity—a people restored to God, restored to one another, and united around the mission of Jesus.

The question isn’t whether we can create this community. Christ has already created it through the cross. The question is whether we will participate in it and embody it.

Will we be the new humanity in the midst of the old one?

Grace doesn’t just save you—it gives you a purpose.

Ephesians 2:8–10 reminds us that salvation is a gift of grace, but God’s grace doesn’t stop at saving us. In Christ, we are made new, given a new identity, and empowered for the good works God prepared for us.

Too many of us know what we’ve been saved from but have never fully embraced what we’ve been saved for. We approach God as though we are barely tolerated guests, defined by our past failures and unworthiness. But the gospel tells a different story: we were unworthy, but God qualified us. We were guilty, but God justified us. We were dead, but God made us alive. We were far away, but God brought us near.

You are not merely a masterpiece to be admired—you are a masterpiece with a mission. God created you, redeemed you, and wants to use your life for His glory.

When we receive His grace, gratitude becomes our response. We stop living in the shadow of our past and start living in the light of His grace. We find peace in God’s hands, but we also find purpose in His hands.

You are a masterpiece with a mission—a vessel with an assignment, an instrument in the hands of the Master.

Everyone knows something is wrong with the world—and something is wrong with us. But what if we've misdiagnosed the problem?
