What does it really mean to be in unity?

Is it a meeting? Lack of fights? Is unity simply harmony of ideas? 

What is the purpose of this unity and how does it come together? Do we understand the unity we are to work towards as a pursuit to enter into the unity of Our Father and His Christ?

How do we cooperate in God's building and be a contributor into the life of our brothers?
