Most of us carry around an invisible scoreboard. We weigh the good against the bad and quietly hope the balance tips in our favor. We assume that if we are “good enough,” things will work out in the end.
But in John 3, when Nicodemus comes to Jesus at night, Jesus disrupts that entire way of thinking. He doesn’t talk about moral performance. He doesn’t mention spiritual resumes. Instead, he says something shocking: you must be born again.
So what does that mean? And what is the true “currency” of the Kingdom of God?
In this sermon from the Second Sunday in Lent, we explore how salvation is not earned through good works, religious heritage, or church membership. Instead, it comes through faith — understood not as vague belief, but as trust, loyalty, and allegiance to Jesus.
From Genesis 12 and the faith of Abraham, to Romans 4 and justification by faith, to Jesus’ conversation with Nicodemus and the famous words of John 3 verses 16–17, we see one consistent truth:
Faith in Jesus saves.
Lent invites us to examine where our trust truly rests. Are we relying on our performance? Or have we given Jesus our allegiance?
The currency of the Kingdom is not what we do — it is who we trust.
