When the children of Isreal came out of Egypt, they did not know what they had. Neither did they understand who they were in Christ. 

Exodus 13:18 (KJV),  But God led the people about, through the way of the wilderness of the Red sea: and the children of Israel went up harnessed out of the land of Egypt.

The world harnessed means able-bodied soldiers. The children of Isreal came out of Egypt armed and fully equipped solder but did not recognize that. They still had the mentality of being a slave. They did not know what God had given them, and they did not know what they could do in the name of God.
