Later in the scriptures, Gaza is described as the base camp of the Philistines, who were constantly attacking and terrorizing the Jews of Israel. In the Book of Judges, chapter 1, the Lord directed the armies of the Israelites – specifically the armies of the tribe of Judah – to conquer Gaza, and they did.
