24 years ago at the age of seven, the minister at my church, told my mother that I would not be allowed to wear a hot pink dress because it didn’t look good on my skin complexion. Over the years, being told what to wear was used as a mechanism to control me. I finally realized that being told what to wear is a trigger for me and something that I must continue to work on.
