I find it really interesting that some people know more about our problems than we do. They don’t always get it right, but they really close more often than not. And it’s not because they have it all together, they have their flaws too.

Why is it easier for us to spot the problems in others, and we haven’t a clue about our own?

Are we in denial? Is it so hard for us to face the truth about ourselves?

Are we that insecure? If someone knew what your problem was, wouldn’t you want them to tell you?

But, usually unless a person is a close friend and is comfortable enough with you, otherwise you may never hear about it. Oh of course, there will be those who would probably relish in pointing out your flaws. But they are the exception, and more than likely, use that only to elevate themselves at your expense.

But sometimes an honest assessment of ourselves is exactly what we need. Since apparently we can’t see ourselves clearly enough, to even know we have a problem. So having someone point things can be very empowering. A good friend would do that for you.

What if you don’t have such a friend? Well, until you find one, you may have to do your own assessments. At first it will take some practice. I know for me, sometimes I can be harder on myself than anyone would even dare. But, that’s because I know myself.

Maybe that’s what you need too, is to know yourself.
