Right when California needs it most, FEMA could be hamstrung by the partial government shutdown.
Hundreds of contractors working on disaster preparedness projects for FEMA were told to put down their tools and walk off the job shortly after parts of the federal government closed for business last month. And that could be especially bad timing for California, as much of the state continues to recover from devastating wildfires and braces for what could be catastrophic flooding--we will go In Depth.
Speaking of the shutdown, it looks like it will claim at least one more casualty: the traditional State of the Union, after Nancy Pelosi let President Trump know that as long as the government was closed, she'd prefer it if he didn't deliver his address from the House of Representatives.
