KONE LANDS ORDER TO OUTFIT DALLAS MIXED-USE PROJECT
KONE has won a contract to supply Park District, a mixed-use development in downtown Dallas that KONE Americas Executive Vice President Larry Wash describes as a "unique landmark," with 18 elevators. Located at 2101 Pearl Street, Park District will span 916,000 sq. ft. and have a 19-story office tower and 32-story residential tower, along with retail and parking. Overlooking Klyde Warren Park, the project is being developed by Trammell Crow Co. and Metlife Inc. and was designed by HKS Architects. The elevator system will include 10 MiniSpaceTM, six MonoSpace® and two EcoSpace® elevators. Nine units will be equipped with KONE Destination, which implements a destination operating panel, rather than traditional up-and-down buttons.
MANCHESTER PLAN MOVES AHEAD DESPITE OPPOSITION
Developers Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs have submitted plans for the mixed-use St. Michael's 31- and 21-story towers designed by Make in Manchester, U.K., close to the town hall, The Architects' Newspaper reports. Preservationists are alarmed about the proposed demolition of several historic buildings, including an 1800s pub. Still, the developers, former soccer players, are confident about their plan, which has been in the works for a decade, and hope to be onsite by the summer. If built, St. Michael's will have a hotel with approximately 200 rooms, nearly 160 apartments and office space.
TODDLER DIES IN LITTLE ROCK HOME ELEVATOR ACCIDENT
A two-year-old boy died on February 1 as a result of becoming trapped under an elevator at a home in the Heights neighborhood of Little Rock, Arkansas, various news outlets, including Arkansas Matters, report. Police and the fire department were called to the home at approximately noon and found the child unresponsive. Authorities are investigating, describing it as a tragic accident.
