Incomplete
I've been staring at the "Krait's Redeemption coming soon!" snippet at the end of Ferran's Map for years now. Actual YEARS. I've gone through every book in the series at least four times. Now that I've read the latest installment, I feel let down.
The action and pacing felt forced. I've been watching these characters dither over their choices for years, and now that book five is here, they're all suddenly decisive? They quickly figure out what to do about Sora's temperamental cat's eye, why Crash was drawn to the Shade, how to deal with Seaborne and Ferran and Krait.... Every single arc, from minor characters like Silas to major players like Caprion, is abruptly tied up with a bow. I get that she has a whole 'nother book to finish, but for the first time, I'm not waiting on pins and needles.
All the mystery that books one through four built upon evaporates by the end of this one. I'm fine with her decision to resolve all of that. I just wish she'd taken the time to develop this book like she did the rest.
If you check out the specs on this book, you'll see that it is the shortest in the series. This reads like a rushed interlude between book four and the conclusion of the series, something that perhaps would have worked better as an addendum to book four. It sounds like a couple years elapse between the end of this book and the next; seriously hoping the characters will re-find themselves in the interim and I can reconnect with why I originally bought in to this series.
Loved it!
I was impatiently waiting for this book and I tried my best to draw it out and not just block out the world and devour it. I really loved it and I think it was the perfect next step in the series. I think I expected more going on with Krait, given the title, but she did have her moment of truth. I think the whole story flowed really well. I genuinely loved this book and I'm dying for book 6 to be released. I can't wait for Crash and Sora to get their happy ending.
Fantastic series
I adore the main characters of this series so much, and I love Sora and Crash's relationship; they are so freaking adorable. I can't. Shreffler's writing is, as always, amazing. And I am absolutely enthralled with this world.
That being said, there are a couple reasons why this book didn't get a 5-star rating.
Firstly, I found Lorraine very irritating in this book as compared to the previous books in the series.
