  • 2024 Agricultural Cycle (Plateau)
The 2024 agricultural cycle hasn't been particularly hitch free for farmers in Plateau State so far. Unusual rain patterns caused a bit of a scare the last few weeks, as some farmers lost parts of their crop to a dry spell that affected some parts of the state more than others.
On this episode of the podcast, I had the pleasure of discussing it with Dr. David Nyomo Jeb,
    Director/CEO
National Centre for Remote Sensing, Jos.
He is a Geographer who specializes in Hydrology, Fluvial Geomorphology, Remote Sensing, Geospatial Analysis, and Hydrological Modeling.
He is also a farmer himself!

  • #EndBadGovernance protests (Jos)
Nigeria is currently witnessing a wave of protests over economic hardship occasioned by high food prices, and a significant hike in fuel and electricity costs.
The 'End Bad Governance' protests, which commenced Thursday (August 1, 2024) have seen Nigerians in most states across the country come out in their numbers.
On Saturday (Day 3 of the planned 10-day action), I had the opportunity to speak to a few business owners around parts of Jos.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang imposed a 24-hour curfew in Jos North & Bukuru, which took effect Sunday evening (August 4), following some unrest in parts of town.

  • The Role of Media in Bridging the Gender Gap
I join Christy Pam Makut (my namesake) on 'Voices of the Community' to discuss ways in which media reflects -and can help bridge- the gender gap in society.
Media can be a great tool for highlighting the challenges, achievements and potentials of women, and -itself- offer them more equal opportunities and rewards.

  • Renew Our World: Recycling and Innovation
I get to meet the CEO of Zang Technologies, Zang Luka, whose company makes products such as a computer foot mouse for the physically challenged, odor absorbers, sieving machines, biodegradable packaging and power banks.
And he makes them by recycling electronic and agricultural waste!
Interestingly, he never went past secondary school education.

Mr Osacar Danladi Fwangmun (Co-founder, Jos Green Centre) talks about the effects of consumerism, and culture-based solutions to our waste problem. He also talks about a proposed primary level waste separation bill that would prioritise waste sorting from source in Plateau State.
Mr Samuel Dapiya (DG, PEPSA) responds to some concerns, and shares some of the current administration's ideas towards improving waste management through recycling.

  • Safe Spaces - Unresolved Mangu Rape Case (2019)
In a previous episode, I spoke with Mangu Youth Leader, Mr Sunday Dankaka. In this episode, I speak with Edith Enoch -a young woman he made reference to- who was on her way to work in a village near Mangu town, when two young Fulani men stopped and raped her. The incident was reported to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Jos, but the case went quiet during the Covid 19 lockdown in 2000.
