5 million patients each year are placed into C-Collars in the United States, but only 12,000 patients annually develop spinal injury. Let's review the literature on C-Collars and see if they truly are "relatively harmless" and make a strong case on de-emphasis of c-collars in awake and asymptomatic patients.
