Kyle Barger and the host of the Reckless CEO Podcast discussed how taxing it can be for an entrepreneur to have opportunities coming their way. Kyle shared his own experiences as a businessman and father, and how he has to be intentional about how he spends his time since recently welcoming twins to the family. He discussed his Make A Day Foundation and how it is important to decipher which opportunities to take and which to leave. He stressed the importance of being careful and not wasting time, money, and energy on paths that don't make sense.
Kyle grew up lower middle class and was taught at an early age to earn what he wanted. He started with a paper route when he was 12 and ended up starting several businesses, including a gym. Now, at age 38, he is a father of four and his why has changed. He now wants to raise his children to be good, kind people and leave the community better than he found it. He loves being able to balance business and family life, but can't imagine how he could fit in more kids. He is excited to watch his journey as a father, and is proud of all the business he has accomplished.
Kyle had a good childhood experience, which gave him a sense of control over his own life. He then worked for a corporate job for 10 years and experienced the downsides of working for a company that didn't have his best interests at heart. After a crossroads in his life, he decided to focus on his four pillars of financial freedom, schedule freedom, meaningful work and impacting the world. He left his corporate job and had clients trying to hire him, but he had a non-compete and an old colleague offered him a job at half the salary he was making. His dad and wife were pushing him to take the job.
Kyle was faced with a difficult decision when he was offered a $50,000 job. He chose to take a risk and started the Champion Trading Group, working out of a co-working space for $300 a month. His first year in business, he was the only employee and made $1.4 million. His dad and wife were initially apprehensive, but Kyle maintained his confidence in his choice. Despite making good money, he was not a good leader and hired people that were his friends without knowing how to train or lead them. The company still exists today but is on autopilot and has evolved, and they started the Make a Day Foundation to give back to the community. Kyle's story demonstrates the importance of having confidence in one's decisions and taking risks.
