I am a big fan of portable monitors. In a laptop bag, you can get a second screen for travel. In my portable video rig, the monitor helps keep the overall case lighter in weight.

KYY has been making monitors for a few years now. I reviewed their KYY 15 inch portable a few years back, which I still use. But now that laptops have a 14 inch size, some look for a portable monitor to match the dimensions.

KYY Portable Monitor

This is a 1920×1080 60fps resolution monitor with options to connect to Mac, PC, iOS, Android, and other computers. It can also connect to Apple TV, Roku, Fire TV, XBox, and Playstation systems.

The monitor can connect to three different computers, and can be set to landscape or portrait mode (if the device allows).

VESA Mount Option

The KYY 14 inch monitor has 4 VESA mount screws in the back so you can connect to a wall mount or table mount. I have these Quick Detach VESA mounts that can fit on portable TV stands.

So this monitor could be used for a small room, affixed to the wall. With a dual arm mount, you can put together a functional desk, switching between devices for gaming or working.

Pros, Cons, and Wishes of the KYY Portable Monitor

CONS

The VESA mount is nice, but it came with no screws. The threaded mount requires shorter screws or washers to add to the back. If you try to tighten with the screws you have, you could crack the screen.

On the same token, the case/stand doesn’t have a place on the monitor: I know it’ll get lost in my house if you can’t tuck it in somewhere.

The switching between monitors does take some getting used to. I turned off the monitor a few times through the side buttons.

PROS

As for it being a matching 14 inch monitor for your laptop (maybe a Macbook ), this is great for your bag since the size of the monitor matches.

I didn’t see any issues when I went through some color tests.

Connecting 3 devices is not a problem. Switching over to game, switch back to work.

WISHES

Both USB-C and HDMI cables are on one side, and the cable will protrude from the monitor. If you want this monitor on the left side of your computer, you’ll have to put some space in-between (or get a 90 degree cable).

I would love any of these portable monitor companies to make an all-in-one HDMI cable with USB-C Power cable. If I’m using this for a laptop, I don’t have two cables going back and forth.

Price and Availability

The KYY 14 inch portable monitor MSRP is $120.
