"LA Fishing Report: Halibut, Seabass, and Calicos Biting Across SoCal Hotspots"

Listen Later

Hey there, fellow anglers! Artificial Lure here with your Los Angeles fishing report for March 22, 2025. Let's dive right in!

The sun's rising at 6:52 AM and setting at 7:06 PM, giving us plenty of daylight to wet our lines. Weather's looking primo - partly cloudy with highs around 72°F and a gentle onshore breeze. Perfect conditions to hit the water!

Tides are playing nice today. We've got a low tide at 5:23 AM (0.5 feet), followed by a high at 11:42 AM (4.8 feet). Another low comes in at 5:56 PM (0.2 feet). These swings should get the fish moving, especially during those transition periods.

Now, let's talk fish! The bite's been on fire lately. Halibut are still hanging around in good numbers, with some anglers reporting multiple catches in the 15-25 pound range. White seabass have also been making a strong showing, especially early mornings and late evenings.

Calico bass fishing has been stellar around rocky structure and kelp beds. Some real chunky ones in the 3-5 pound class have been coming over the rails. And don't forget about those sand bass - they've been schooling up nicely on the nearshore sand flats.

For you surf anglers, the perch bite is still going strong. Lots of barred surfperch in the 1-2 pound range, with some bigger ones mixed in. Croakers and corbina are also starting to show up more frequently as the water warms up.

Lure-wise, swimbaits are still the go-to for bigger game fish. The 6-inch Savage Gear Sandeel in anchovy color has been absolutely crushing it for halibut. For calicos, you can't go wrong with a 4-inch Big Hammer swimbait in root beer color. Surf guys, Berkeley Gulp! Sandworms in camo color are still the ticket for perch.

If you're more of a bait fisherman, live squid has been the hot ticket for white seabass and bigger halibut. Fresh or frozen anchovies are working well for the bass species. And for you surf casters, sand crabs (if you can find 'em) or bloodworms are your best bet.

As for hot spots, Redondo Beach Pier has been on fire for halibut lately. The rocky areas around Palos Verdes are producing some quality calico action. And for you surf guys, Zuma Beach has been consistently kicking out nice perch and the occasional corbina.

Remember, folks, fishing's been good, but catching's even better! Get out there, stay safe, and tight lines to all of you!
