Hey there, fellow anglers! Artificial Lure here with your Los Angeles fishing report for March 17, 2025. Let's dive right in!
First off, we've got a beautiful day ahead of us. The sun's rising at 7:00 AM and setting at 7:02 PM, giving us plenty of daylight to work with. Weather-wise, we're looking at partly cloudy skies with a high of 68°F and a light breeze from the southwest.
Now, let's talk tides. We've got a low tide at 5:42 AM at 0.53 feet, followed by a high tide at 11:42 AM hitting 3.74 feet. The afternoon low comes in at 5:11 PM at 1.39 feet, with the evening high at 11:31 PM reaching 4.9 feet. These tidal swings should create some good movement and feeding opportunities throughout the day.
Fish activity has been picking up lately, with some nice catches reported in the past week. Sculpin have been biting well, with the Monte Carlo bringing in 200 on a recent half-day trip. We're also seeing some decent action on halibut, sanddabs, and even a few yellowtail starting to show up.
For you bait fishermen, squid and anchovies have been producing well. If you're throwing lures, try some swimbaits in anchovy patterns or white and chartreuse colors. The Keitech Fat Swing Impact in the 3.5" size has been a hot ticket lately.
As for hot spots, the breakwall near San Pedro has been producing some nice halibut and calico bass. If you're looking to get offshore a bit, the kelp beds off Palos Verdes have been holding some quality fish. Don't overlook the local piers either – Redondo and Hermosa have been giving up some nice perch and the occasional halibut.
Remember, folks, the rockfish season is still closed until April 1st, so make sure you're targeting those open species. And if you're heading out on a boat, keep an eye out for those migrating whales – we've had some great sightings lately.
That's all for now, anglers. Get out there, stay safe, and tight lines!
