Hey there, anglers! Artificial Lure here with your Los Angeles fishing report for March 12, 2025.
First off, let's talk tides. We've got a low tide of 0.8 feet at 5:42 AM, followed by a high of 4.2 feet at 11:54 AM. The second low comes in at 1.1 feet at 5:23 PM. Sunrise is at 7:09 AM and sunset at 6:59 PM, giving us plenty of daylight to work with.
Weather-wise, we're looking at partly cloudy skies with a high of 68°F and light winds from the southwest. Perfect conditions for a day on the water!
Now, onto the good stuff - the fish! The past week has seen some solid action on calico bass, sand bass, and sculpin. A few lucky anglers even managed to land some nice halibut in the 15-20 pound range. Yellowtail have been spotty, but there are reports of some schools hanging around Catalina Island.
For you bait fishermen, live squid has been the ticket lately. If you can't get your hands on the real deal, try some fresh dead squid or even squid-patterned plastics. As for artificial lures, I've been having great luck with 4-inch swimbaits in anchovy or sardine patterns. Don't forget about the trusty bucktail jig either - it's been producing some quality fish lately.
If you're looking for some hot spots, I'd recommend hitting up Rocky Point or the Palos Verdes kelp beds for calicos and sand bass. For those chasing halibut, try drifting the sandy areas just outside King Harbor or off Hermosa Beach.
Remember, folks, the rockfish season is still closed until April 1st, so make sure you're targeting those surface and mid-water species for now.
That's all for today, anglers. Get out there, stay safe, and tight lines!
