Good morning, anglers! Here’s your comprehensive fishing report for Friday, April 4, 2025, covering the waters in and around Los Angeles.
The weather today in Los Angeles is pleasant, with clear skies and daytime temperatures projected to reach a high of 73°F. Winds are mild at around 8 mph, ideal for anglers. Sunrise was at 6:36 AM, with sunset at 7:16 PM, giving us plenty of daylight to enjoy the bite. Tidal movements today are moderate, with high tides at 2:06 AM and 6:21 PM and low tides at 10:26 AM and 9:36 PM. These tidal conditions are favorable for targeting both inshore and offshore species.
Recent fishing activity shows solid action across local waters. Inshore trips out of Marina Del Rey saw high counts of Sculpin and a few Sand Bass. Over in San Pedro, boats reported excellent Sculpin numbers along with some Sand Bass, Halibut, and even a Sheephead or two. Offshore trips heading to Santa Catalina Island had a decent haul of Whitefish, Sheephead, and Blue Perch. The season is shaping up wonderfully, with both quantity and species diversity improving every day.
If you’re casting from shore or heading out on your own, consider targeting Halibut or Calico Bass in shallow waters, especially around rocky structures and kelp beds. Artificial lures like swimbaits, jerkbaits, and crankbaits in natural colors are the current favorites. For bait anglers, live or frozen anchovies and squid are consistently producing results. For Sheephead, try shrimp or crab-tipped jigs, which seem to be irresistible to these reef dwellers.
Two hot spots to try today are Santa Monica Pier and Cabrillo Beach. Santa Monica Pier is excellent for pier anglers targeting Halibut, Perch, and the occasional Bonito, especially during the morning high tide. Cabrillo Beach, with its access to both harbor and surf, is a perfect spot for targeting a variety of species like Calico Bass and Croaker. For boat anglers, the reefs near Palos Verdes are always a strong choice, particularly for rockfish and Sheephead.
Gear up at local stores like Tackle Shack USA in Sylmar, where you’ll find everything from live bait like bloodworms and lugworms to top-notch artificial lures. The knowledgeable staff can guide you to the best tackle for your target species.
Whether you’re planning for a casual morning session or an all-day outing, conditions are looking favorable. Tight lines, and don’t forget to share your catch reports!
