With the end of 2022 and a new year closer than ever, I wanted to retake this podcast from a different approach. From a personal experience perspective, I want to tap on cultural differences I notice in my everyday life. Having moved to the Netherlands two years ago, every time I come back to Spain, there is always something that I used to take for granted that I will see with new eyes. It feels like having a cultural shock in reverse.
In this first episode, I talk about the portero from the house building where my mother lives, or the janitor as we would say in English. I noticed that this figure is more culturally present than other countries I have visited. Moreover, porteros do have a lot more responsibilities and greater meaning than one could think at first. I give the example of picking up packages for the neighbours, and I continue talking about his social and cultural relevance.
As always, many many thanks for your support and listening to my voice. I would love to hear what are your thoughts on this episode!
Talk to you soon next year!
