Labiaplasty: Let's See Why It May Be the Right Choice for You

Listen Later

labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that alters the appearance or size of the labia minora in women, usually to make them more symmetrical, and in some cases to reduce their length.

It may be necessary for you to have a labiaplasty if the size or shape of your labia minora is causing you discomfort, pain, or embarrassment. Some women, as they age, may grow increasingly self-conscious about the asymmetry in their labia and want to take action, rather than waiting until it becomes a problem that requires more drastic measures.

Other women may have been born with their labia asymmetrical or with a congenital condition that led to an elongated, uneven labia. This makes it difficult for them to lead a normal life, and can even cause pain during everyday activities like walking, running, etc.

For young girls who have not yet had their first period, this is more of an aesthetic procedure that allows them to grow up without the awkwardness of having a fused vagina.

Once women reach puberty, however, their genitalia hormones cause their labia to become much more pronounced, which means that the procedure is no longer considered "corrective." It becomes purely aesthetic.
