"The Canadian Québec-based group L’abîme recorded a live set in August 2020 at The Mothership in Montréal, which you get to hear on today’s episode of The Jazz Hole Live. L’abîme means “The Abyss” and their self-titled album came out at the end of April on the Montreal based label Multiple Chord Music. Get your copy on labime.ca, labime.ca. The compelling compositions by Pianist Jonathan Turgeon are bolstered by strong arrangements devised by the whole group. L’abîme expresses itself through deep, engaging improvisations by Jonathan Turgeon (piano, compositions), Hugo Blouin (upright bass), Jean-Philippe Godbout (drums), Alex Dodier (saxophones, flute) and Gabriel Genest (tenor saxophone, clarinets).
