Labor's Climate Change Bill: Hot or Not?

Listen Later

Welcome to our first episode of That's Hot! We're kicking it off by exploring the Labor parties (not so new anymore) climate legislation.

The Bill outlines Australia's greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets of a 43% reduction from 2005 levels by 2030 and net zero by 2050; requires the minister to prepare and table an annual climate change statement; requires the Climate Change Authority to give the minister advice in relation to the annual statement and future greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets; and provides for periodic reviews of the operation of the Act.

Is it hot?! Is it not?! You'll have to listen to find out...

Every episode will end with an act of hotness (an actionable thing you can do to have a positive impact), and this week, we're asking you to head on over to the Green Electricity Guide (link below) and check the rating of your current electricity provider. As outlined in the Guide, by switching to greener electricity providers, together we can force dirty coal and gas out of the grid and bring more renewable electricity in, sending a clear message to electricity companies that it’s time to get serious about tackling climate change.

So, what are you waiting for?!
