This series is a great private detective series
This series is a great private detective series. The "hook" is that he is never named. This is an unusual concept in story writing, especially for a long term series but Pronzini does it well. This series is one where the main character ages, so to go through his life chronologically you should start with the earliest book.
good mystery
I have been reading this series and they have great twists and turns. I like nameless he is a character with a personality, that is belivable, and I want to know what happens to him from book to book
Solid Atmospheric Whodunit
Solid entry in the Nameless series.
Another Nameless Winner
Somehow I overlooked reading this Nameless Detective book. Only drawback was that I did not like the cover of the book.
That being said one doesn't judge a book by its cover. This was a fast, enjoyable read.
Sixth Nameless mystery ups the thrills and danger
There is a great moment in this Nameless mystery when someone has vandalized his office, and Nameless panics thinking they might come to his apartment and do the same...possibly destroying his irreplacable and expensive pulp fiction collection. Not many fictional detectives are more worried about their magazine collections than their lives! But Nameless, the everyman P.I., isn't like the TV detectives (another amusing point of the story has a character comparing him to Jim Rockford/James Garner, and Nameless coming up short), although he comes through it's not by swashbuckling fists of iron or guns ablazing.
This is an above-average Nameless mystery and better than the last few because it has more of a danger element, Nameless his held at gunpoint not once but twice, and both times escapes by luck rather than skill. The story starts with two seemingly unrelated crimes...two murders committed that turn out to have quite a bit in common, as the victims are related in interesting ways. One is a college girl found with Namesless's business card in her pocket, the other occurs later and ends up having connections to the dead girl. Through good old fashioned detective work and hitting the pavement by questioning everyone related or involved with the victims, Nameless slowly begins to turn up connections, and finds the reasons behind the crimes. But as they say, it may be too late to save the latest victim, himself...
This Nameless features a much more interesting plotline than many of the other Nameless stories, as everything seemingly totally non-related in the story fits in by the end with a very satisfying denoument. Nameless has quite a few ruminations on the current state of his life...quitting smoking, spending too much money on his collection, having his rent raised, not having a significant female relationship...you begin to wish old guy a bit of happiness in the future, and hopefully things will begin to look up in the next few stories.
