Lake Fork Fishing Report: Topwater Blitz, Crappie Bonanza, and Summer Patterns

Listen Later

Howdy, folks! This is Artificial Lure comin' at ya with your Lake Fork fishing report for this fine Monday morning, May 12th, 2025.

We've got some mighty fine conditions out on the water today. Lake level is sittin' at about 0.73 feet below pool, with water temps holdin' steady around 73 degrees. Water's still showing that stained clarity we've been seein' lately.

The bass fishing has been downright excellent this past week! These post-spawn largemouth are aggressive and hungry. The early morning topwater bite is absolutely on fire, especially around those shad spawn areas. If you're out before the sun gets too high, them diesel chatterbaits and small spinnerbaits are doin' the trick on points where you see them blue herons workin'. Don't miss throwin' them frog patterns in the shallow vegetation - that's been money in the bank!

Once the sun gets up a bit, switch to them flukes and Yum Dingers around grass edges in 1-3 feet of water. Carolina rigs have been fair in 5-10 feet on secondary points. We're seein' a new wave of spawners pullin' up, especially on the lower end of the lake.

For you crappie anglers, fishing has settled into that post-spawn and summer pattern we'll be seein' for the next few months. There's an incredible number of small black crappie loadin' up on brush piles, laydowns, bridges, and docks. The bigger slabs are a bit trickier to locate, but they're there! The white crappie are beginnin' to load on them summer pattern trees. Both minnows and jigs of any color are producin' extremely well.

For you fly fishermen, them black bass are lovin' the frog patterns in shallow vegetation. Crappie are movin' shallow, and small clousers are producin' well. Large bream have moved shallow too, with wooly buggers bringin' in good fish. Channel catfish are cruisin' in 2-4 feet and bitin' on clousers.

Hot spots this week: Check out the points near the 515 bridge for that early mornin' topwater action. The coves on the south end of the lake are holdin' them spawners, and I'd put my money on the timber near Caney Creek for some slab crappie action.

Remember, early bird gets the worm out here - or in this case, the lunker bass! Get out before the sun climbs too high for your best chance at some wall-hangers.

That's all for today, folks. This is Artificial Lure signin' off. Y'all stay safe and tight lines!
