Good afternoon, anglers! Here’s your fishing report for Lake Fork, Texas, on April 4, 2025.
The weather today is excellent for fishing, with a cool morning in the 50s warming up to the low 70s by mid-afternoon. Sunrise was at 7:12 a.m., and sunset will be at 7:47 p.m. Skies are partly cloudy with a light southeast breeze at 5-10 mph—ideal conditions to hit the water.
Lake Fork’s water temperature is ranging from 58°F to 66°F, depending on location, with slightly stained water clarity. The lake level is just below full pool, and fish activity is strong as we move deeper into the spawning season.
Largemouth bass fishing is red-hot right now. Males are holding in shallow waters, particularly on warm, sunny banks, while larger females are staged in areas near spawning flats. Focus on depths of 1-3 feet and use slow presentations with Texas-rigged soft plastics, wacky-rigged Senkos, or chatterbaits. These lures in natural or crawfish colors are highly effective. Crappie are also active, moving between 6-20 feet around timber near spawning zones. When water temperatures hit 62-64°F, you’ll find them shallower in 2-4 feet of water. Minnows, soft plastics, and hand-tied jigs are all producing great results.
Anglers have been reporting impressive catches recently, with largemouth bass averaging 3-7 pounds and some breaking the 8-pound mark. Crappie anglers are reeling in large slabs consistently. Catfish remain active in deeper channels, responding well to cut bait and stink bait.
If you’re looking for hotspots, check out these two prime locations:
1. **Birch Creek:** This area offers excellent structure for both bass and crappie, including timber, grass, and creek channels. Duck Call Cove, located near the creek mouth, is a standout spot for spawning bass. Jigs, Texas rigs, and spinnerbaits work wonders here.
2. **Big Bass Point:** Situated close to the Hwy 514 Bridge, this iconic location consistently produces trophy bass. Target 10-16 feet of water with Carolina rigs or spinnerbaits in watermelon or June-bug colors. Cast carefully along the point and near the drop-offs.
For your bait selection, Lake Fork Trophy Lures’ Live Baby Shad Swimbait and Ring Fry are highly recommended. Square-bill crankbaits in red or crawfish patterns and suspending jerkbaits are also performing well for bass. For crappie, stick to minnows or small jigs.
With perfect spring weather and active fish, this is a prime time to fish Lake Fork. Whether you’re after trophy bass or a cooler full of crappie, Lake Fork is ready to deliver. Tight lines, folks!
