Lake Fork Fishing Report: Warming Temps Ignite Shallow Bass Bite, Crappie and Catfish Action

Listen Later

Howdy folks, Artificial Lure here with your Lake Fork fishing report for March 14, 2025. It's a beautiful day out on the water with temperatures climbing to the mid-60s by afternoon. Sunrise was at 7:32 AM, and we're looking at sunset around 7:27 PM.

Water levels are holding steady, just a few inches below full pool. Surface temps are ranging from 56 to 62 degrees, depending on where you're at on the lake. The fish are definitely starting to get active with the warming trend we've had this week.

Bass fishing has been picking up, with several anglers reporting nice catches in the 3-5 pound range. A few lucky folks even managed to land some lunkers pushing 8-10 pounds. These big girls are starting to move up shallow, getting ready for the spawn. Best baits have been soft plastics like Senkos and flukes in watermelon or green pumpkin colors. Chatterbaits and small swimbaits are also producing well in the backs of coves and on shallow flats with grass.

Crappie fishing has been hit or miss, but those finding them are filling up their livewells. Timber in 14-30 feet of water seems to be the most consistent pattern. Jigs in lighter colors for deeper water and darker colors for shallower, muddier areas are working well.

For you catfish enthusiasts, channel cats are biting pretty good on cut bait and stinkbaits in 8-15 feet of water. A few bigger blues have been caught by folks drifting live bait in deeper water.

If you're looking for some hot spots, I'd recommend checking out the area around the Highway 515 bridge. The points leading into Birch Creek have also been producing some nice bass. For crappie, try the timber near the dam or along the old river channel.

Remember folks, it's that time of year when the big ones are moving shallow. Keep an eye out for bedding areas, but please practice catch and release with those spawning fish to keep our fishery healthy for years to come.

Tight lines, and I'll see y'all out on the water!
