Lake Fork Spring Fishing Forecast: Trophies Abound in Warming Waters

Listen Later

Good morning anglers! It’s April 4, 2025, and Lake Fork is serving up prime fishing conditions this spring. With sunrise at 7:12 a.m. and sunset at 7:47 p.m., there’s plenty of time to chase those trophies. Current weather is forecasted to be between 55°F in the morning and rising to the low 70s by afternoon, with partly cloudy skies and a light southeast breeze at 5-10 mph. Water temperatures range from 58°F to 66°F, and the lake is slightly below full pool. The stained water clarity is perfect for lures with vibration and flash.

The bass bite is heating up as smaller males are already on sunny, shallow banks, while big females linger close to spawning flats. Focus on depths of 1-3 feet using Texas-rigged soft plastics, wacky-rigged Senkos, or chatterbaits. Crawfish and natural color patterns are producing well. Slow and methodical presentations are your best bet right now. Crappie are also making their move with consistent action near timber in 6-20 feet of water. As temperatures climb to 62-64°F, they’ll push into shallower spawning grounds around 2-4 feet. Minnows, soft plastics like Lake Fork Trophy Lures Live Baby Shad, and hand-tied jigs are delivering steady results.

This week’s catches have included plenty of largemouth bass in the 3-7 lb range, along with a few giants over 8 lbs. Crappie anglers have been hauling in slab-sized fish as well. Catfish are active in deeper channels, with stink bait and cut bait being the go-to choices.

Here are a couple of hot spots to explore:

1. **Birch Creek**: This arm features excellent structure, including timber, grass, and creek channels. Duck Call Cove, near its mouth, is especially fruitful for spawning bass. Use spinnerbaits or Texas rigs for best results.

2. **Big Bass Point**: Located near the Hwy 514 Bridge, this spot continues to produce trophies. Target 10-16 feet of water with Carolina rigs or watermelon and June-bug colored spinnerbaits.

With spring in full swing, Lake Fork is buzzing with activity. Whether you're hunting bass, crappie, or catfish, the action is hot. Tight lines and happy fishing!
