Good morning anglers! Here's your April 13, 2025, fishing update for Lake Fork, Texas, straight from the water.
The weather today is setting up beautifully, with temperatures ranging from a cool 54°F in the early morning to a pleasant 73°F by afternoon. Expect partly cloudy skies, with a southeast breeze around 5-10 mph. Sunrise was at 7:12 a.m., and sunset tonight will be at 7:48 p.m., giving you a good window to chase those trophies. Water temperatures are hovering between 63°F and 66°F, slightly stained, and the lake remains about 0.25 feet below pool level.
The fishing is heating up along with the spring season! Largemouth bass are moving shallow as they spawn. Smaller males are holding to warmer, sunny banks, while the big females are staging near spawning flats. Successful anglers have been working 1-4 feet of water using Texas-rigged worms, chatterbaits, and spinnerbaits in natural or crawfish colors. Frogs in matted grass and wacky-rigged Senkos are also producing quality bites. If you’re after crappie, they’re scattered in various stages of the spawn. Fish have been found from 2-40 feet of water near timber, bridges, and brush piles. Minnows, soft plastics, and jigs are top performers. Channel catfish are active in 2-4 feet of water and biting well on cut bait or stink bait.
Reports this week mention solid largemouth bass catches, with plenty in the 3-7 pound range and some over 8 pounds. Crappie action is also steady, with anglers hauling in nice-sized slabs consistently. Bluegill and sunfish are moving into shallow water, making them a fun target with small spinners or worms.
For gear, Lake Fork Trophy Lures’ Live Baby Shad Swimbait and Ring Fry have remained local favorites for both bass and crappie. Other top choices include square-bill crankbaits in red or crawfish colors and suspending jerkbaits for bass, while live minnows are the ticket for crappie.
Looking for hot spots? Start at **Birch Creek**, especially Duck Call Cove, where timber and brush provide cover for spawning bass. Another prime location is **Big Bass Point**, near the Hwy 514 bridge. Focus on 10-16 feet of water for big bass using Carolina rigs or spinnerbaits. If you’re targeting crappie, focus on bridges or standing timber as they adjust to water temperatures.
Whether you’re after bass, crappie, or catfish, Lake Fork is alive with action this weekend. Tight lines and good luck out there!
