Lakota native Otakatay has an obligation to fulfill. He has been hired to kill the witkowin. In a time when race and difference are a threat and innocence holds no ground, courage, love, and honor will bring Nora and Otakatay together as they fight for their freedom. Members Reviews:
heartwarming story
Gifted with healing, Nora Rushton is hidden away in her home to protect her life. Her father, an alcoholic gambler, has moved Nora from town to town because her healing powers generated accusations of witchcraft. Nora's mother was killed while Nora was an infant because the mother also had healing powers. A wealthy mine owner, Elwood Calhoun tries to court Nora.
Nora's compassion causes her to heal, even thought it could cause threats to her life. In her forest wanderings, Nora comes across a Lakota bounty hunter, Otakatav, who has been hired to kill those with healing powers. But Nora's spunk and love stays his hand. Several times Norah faced death, but kept her loving disposition and sought to subtly bring about healing and comfort to those who crossed her path.
Kat Flannery has spun a tale filled with interesting characters and plot twists. It was hard to put down this story and I stayed up late to finish. Otakatay's quest to earn money for a purpose, his mixed feelings for Norah, and threats on Norah's life spiral the couple into life-changing challenges. This is definitely a story worth reading. You will not be disappointed.
Best of both worlds
While life has been harsh and cruel to many of the characters, honor and love do triumph. I find the healing abilities of Nora sparked my interest in the book, I have always admired native American culture.
Lakota Honor (Branded Trilogy Book 1)
This was an unusual story, and I was glued to the book. It was not what I expected, fortunately. I gave it five stars because of the intrigue of the story progression and ending.
Flannery's Yearning World
This timeless, classic-feeling novel is a story that will find its place, not just in your heart, but rising, rising, rising, in the world of promising contemporary fiction.
You turn the first few pages and a stardust hand wrought of virginal possibility, reaches out and pulls you in immediately. The reader enters Flanneryâs world of plausible, yearning, unforgettable characters, a world divertingly and edifyingly doomed with the pressing challenges of a forgotten time, but a world not without love.
