Luke 13:1-9 opens with Pilates troops being sent to slaughter the Galilean Temple worshippers. Political turmoil has captured the attention of everyone so Jesus warns that death is imminent and those who take the sword will perish with the sword. Repentance is the cry of Jesus and the subject for his Parable
Of the Fig Tree.
When Jerusalem fell in AD 70 it was a direct result of refusing to follow the way of peace. The Parable of the Fig Tree was a comment about the times, where Jesus gives those who will not seek peace one more chance to repent.
Jesus grieves over Jerusalem and all who choose to enter the rebellion of the time rather than seeking peace and restoration.
