A friend of mine is a commercial pilot who talks about landing the airplane safely as a metaphor for landing safely in life. The goal is stability in the glide path despite that can go wrong, from strong sidewinds to  landing gears not being locked.  Here are reflections on my friend's viewpoint as applied to my life as a cancer survivor and to my nation as a despotism survivor. You may find hope in these thoughts.
