My strategy went from landing my dream job to finding any opportunity that would thrust me into situations I was not fully equipped for. I had a few full-time options on the table and opted for an internship with the Brooklyn Cyclones, a minor league baseball set in Coney Island. I was making $10/hr and living out of the hotel where the players were housed in exchange for rides back and forth from and to the stadium. As you can probably imagine, this decision was an unpopular choice by the masses but I knew I was doing right by myself.
To make a long story short, this internship turned into my first full-time job. It was not monetarily lucrative but rich for the longevity of my career. I went against the grain and consciously chose the road less traveled because I knew that joining an organization with lesser resources would grant me opportunities not given otherwise. All I had to do was practice patience and be available for when my number was called.
