A neopragmatist approach to horizontal geographies provides a meta-theoretical framework for complex spatial research, challenging essentialism and representation. The program uses multi-level triangulation and philosophical pragmatism to create useful, contingent redescriptions of regions and landscapes. Focusing on Richard Rorty's ideas, the ultimate goal is maximizing life chances and promoting an open, anti-authoritarian society through methodological pluralism and irony.
