Ansel Adams celebrated our land in photography. Countless painters, from the Hudson school to Georgia O’Keefe, attempted to capture the wilderness, the enormous sky, the changing light of the landscape.

The first New World Symphonies were ironically not composed by Americans, but by Europeans: music of Delius, Dvorak, Messiaen (though he was much later), and Coleridge-Taylor.
