Lane Burroughs is in his first season as head coach of the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. The Bulldogs are coming off their first Regional appearance in program history but are under the direction of their third different head coach in the last four years. Last summer Greg Goff left the Louisiana Tech program when he was hired as head coach at Alabama. Louisiana Tech filled the void by hiring Burroughs, who over the previous four years had rebuilt the Northwestern State Demons program. A native of Mississippi, Burroughs played two years at Meridan Community College before playing his final two seasons at Mississippi College. He got his start as a college coach at Mississippi College in 1996 before garnering experience at East Mississippi Community College (1997), Northwestern State (1998), Southern Miss (1999-2007), Kansas State (2008) and Mississippi State (2009-12). Along the way he coached in the Southeastern Conference as well as the Big 12, Conference USA and Southland Conference. He received his first head coaching job at Northwestern State and knew upon taking the job that it involved a rebuilding process. The Demons won only 16 games his first year, in 2013, before going 97-73 over the next three campaigns and qualifying for the Southland Conference Tournament every year. The Demons average 19.7 conference wins and posted three consecutive 30-plus win campaigns from 2014-16. Upon announcing the hiring of Burroughs, Louisiana Tech Athletics Director Tommy McClelland said, “We were focused and committed to finding a coach that could build on the success that the baseball team had this past season. We wanted a coach that would embody all of the qualities of a leader that we have come to expect at Louisiana Tech. Lane showed these qualities during his time at Northwestern State where he rebuilt that program. With Lane, we have found a man who will fit our culture and who will lead Bulldog baseball into the future.”
