Today we turn to a passage that speaks directly into where we are as a church family. In Joshua 1, God’s people are standing at the edge of a new chapter they didn’t fully choose. Moses is gone. The road ahead is unknown. And God doesn’t promise them a replacement or a strategy… He promises them His presence. “As I was with Moses, so I will be with you.” We’ve been saying all summer that we weren’t given a map… we were given a Guide. Today we discovered that the Guide doesn’t leave when circumstances change. He leads us forward. And He is not done with Lantana Community Church.

Two good plans. Two closed doors. No explanation. In Acts 16, Paul tries to take the gospel to Asia, the Spirit says no. He tries Bithynia, the Spirit says no again. He ends up at the edge of the sea with nowhere obvious left to go. And that’s when the guidance finally comes… not as a map, but as a face. A man from Macedonia asking for help. This week in Walking with God Into the Unknown, we’re learning something important about the Guide: He doesn’t always explain His no’s. The silence isn’t absence. The no might not be never… it might be not yet. And the faithful thing is to keep walking.

What do we do when we can’t see what’s next? Most of us want a map… certainty, a plan, answers. But God rarely gives the map first. He gives Himself first. Most of us aren’t losing faith because of doubt. We’re losing heart because of pace. We want transformation to happen faster than it does. In Mark 4, Jesus tells a parable about a farmer who scatters seed, goes to sleep, and wakes up to find it growing...though he doesn’t know how. We’ve been in the story of the Good Samaritan before. Last year we asked what mercy looks like. This year we’re asking something harder: what gets in the way? The priest and Levite weren’t monsters. They were busy. They had somewhere to be. And maybe that’s the most uncomfortable thing about this parable… most of us understand them. In Luke 10, the hidden villain isn’t bad theology. It’s urgency. And the Samaritan’s greatest act wasn’t what he did, it’s that he stopped.
