The picture of Jesus standing at the door and knocking is one of both opportunity and tragedy. There was opportunity in that He was seeking entrance. There was still hope. But the tragedy is that because of their sinfulness and wretchedness He had departed from their fellowship. Where is Jesus in this church? Where is He? Is He in our midst—moving and walking among us, or is He outside the door knocking to gain entrance?
