Larry Page Steps Down as Alphabet CEO

Larry Page stepped down as Alphabet CEO and gave Sundar Pichai control of both Alphabet and Google, effective immediately. Page and co-founder, Sergey Brin, stated that the shift is only “natural,” as Alphabet is now a “well-established” company. “Google was born in 1998.” Founders wrote in a statement: “If it were a person, it would have started elementary school late last summer (around August 19), and today it would have just about finished the first grade. Today, in 2019, if the company was a person, it would be a young adult of 21 and it would be time to leave the roost. While it has been a tremendous privilege to be deeply involved in the day-to-day management of the company for so long, we believe it’s time to assume the role of proud parents — offering advice and love, but not daily nagging!”
