I bumped up the motor speeds by using tip120 darlington transistors to 12 volts. I also had one of my motors running backwards to the other two, and that was surprisingly bad for the patterns. I wouldn't have thought it would make a big difference, but now they they're all going the same direction, it looks really nice! Now on to phase two...
