Most of the dead remain buried to this day.
A hundred and twelve years later, an unattended freight train carrying 72 tank cars of crude oil rolled downhill into downtown Lac-Megantic, Quebec, at 105 kilometres per hour. Forty-seven people died. The entire downtown was levelled. The fire burned for two days.
