The bad news is:  The IRS assesses 3 Penalties if you file your taxes late.  Tax Partner, Dave McEuen, with HEB Solutions breaks down how badly you could get hit for not filing on time.

The good news is: if you are due money, the IRS won't charge you.  In fact, they'll pay you interest on the money they owe.  But you may have to pick up the phone to call them as the IRS.gov website won't help you in this case.
